The pillar plate was cut out to receive a new, but strange hand-setting.
The cutout is to line by a piece of brass and with silver solder to braze. The silver plating, frosted surface, gets lost and must be renewed later, is also valid for the gold plating. Here in this case it is possible to treat the pillar plate in such a way. The warmth while soldering procedure does change the hardness of the brass nevertheless the remaining condition.
This treatment, soldering, is only allowed because no rubies are set directly in the plate.
