Restoration: A. Lange & Söhne, Ankerchronometer, anno 1915*
The watch movement was purchased at auction in November 2006 and disassembled for evaluation the following day. As the photographs show, the movement was in a dreadful state with incorrect and missing parts, poorly executed repairs and modifications. It was sacrilege that such an “expert” had been allowed near this watch. At this stage I wasn’t even sure that restoration was possible. I bit the bullet on April 7th, making sure to keep an accurate step by step picture and text log of my work, such that the viewer can follow progress from beginning to end. The movement restoration was completed on the 28th May 2007.
It is my intention to finalise this project by making a clear acrilic style case. After a break I started the case on July 24th. On August 16th I could use my watch.
